Expectancy in the Air

I am sitting here as I have all morning feeling there is something God wants me to write but it isn't clear just what "that" is yet.  I am just going with a few things He has given me over the last few days.

Starting with today.  I have no physical reason why, but I do feel an expectancy in my spirit that God is about to burst through with something.  Have you ever felt that way?  I am praising Him before the answer is manifested. :)  The funny thing, my other family members are feeling it to and that made me smile.

Last night was a very stressful night. It has been beyond stressful for us since the weekend. I stopped and praised God and then I asked for a verse.  I.had. to. have. it. You have been there and you know what I am talking about.

Let me share w/you what God laid on my heart from the Message:

Rainy Days and Comfort Food

What is it about a rainy day or weekend that brings out the cravings of some good ole comfort food?   Of course, a big snow storm does the same thing for me. ;)

It is raining. A lot. Like all weekend.  I have no place to go this weekend and that is okay with me considering the weather right now.

I have put a roast in the slow cooker this morning and it smells so good. I almost feel like I have betrayed my Baptist heritage by cooking a roast on Saturday instead of Sunday. lol

I am going to watch football today. I know, you are shocked. hee hee I am also going to read a few books today.  I think I will light my pumpkin scented candle and sit back and relax. Thank you God for days like these.

All of this got me to thinking about comfort foods. In the south one comfort food might be pinto beans and cornbread. I consider that a meal along with some good sweet tea. Yum.  Of course, it isn't right if you don't cook that cornbread in an iron skillet. Years ago my mom gave me an iron skillet that used to be my nana's and I can promise you this skillet has made a million cornbreads. ;) It is well seasoned and I also make gravy in it to go along with homemade biscuits.

So, what is your favorite comfort food?

Yesterday, I was reading Travis Cottrell's note on FB and he was talking about fighting the urge to listen to Christmas music.   I laughed because I was thinking about listening to my Carpenter Christmas cd the other day. lol  I may have it on my Ipod. I will have to check later.   I don't think it is too early do you? lol  I usually wait until October but it is only 89 days until Christmas. ;)

Y'all have a fun weekend!!

I'm Feeling...

I got this idea from my friend Lindsey who got it from two of her friends etc.... and I wanted to do it. :)

I'm feeling......

Thankful  that the sun has been out all day.

Happy that Fall colors are in abundance and that it will really begin to feel like Fall this weekend.

Not happy that we are expected to have torrential rainfall over the next 2 days w/ flooding expected.

Excited about a local giveway that could very well put me on the sidelines of the Tennessee vs. Georgia game.  Trust me this giveaway has my name written all over it. I have joked for years that I need to coach the team on the sidelines instead of my couch.  Just sayin'.  lol

Enjoying this meatball sandwich for lunch.  It was a new recipe I tried last night. Meatballs in a slow cooker or crock-pot. The boys called it Meatloaf balls. ha!

Stressed.  So much going on right now, back against a wall, at my wits end.

Desperate for God's help for the above reason.

Blessed because of the special group of friends and our prayer support for each other. Truly a blessing from God!

Missing my fellow "Siestas" and wishing we could all get together for some serious face time.

Expecting God to move

Enough is enough..not just for me but for a few friends who are under it. You know what I mean?!

Thankful for the lessons in the wilderness to prepare us for the next season in our lives.

Mixed emotions

feeling like something is looming but at the same time knowing that God has the provision

Desiring  a trip to the mountains

longing for our own place

Grateful for Jesus and heaven

like I need a nice long soak in a jacuzzi. :)

 Thankful that I am saved

Appreciative over an unexpected gift the other day. Made me smile and praise God!

After all of the above , I am feeling the need to praise God more.

He is and that is enough!

This week has been a HARD one for my family and friends. I can't even begin to tell you what is going on with us or my sweet friends but suffice it to say that the enemy is attacking every stinkin' one of us and we are just OVER. it.

This reminded me of the name of my blog a year ago before I changed it from Girlfriends in God to God is Able.  Yes, I have had many names and they fit for each season. :))

I was tempted to put that name back up in the header .  :)

Anyway, if you are struggling, if the enemy is attacking you, remember that God is more than able to fight for you and He will not let any weapon formed against you to prosper!!

Don't you just love Sunday?

The day we get to go to church and worship and celebrate God!  This little church is in Cades Cove in the Smokey Mountains.

The day we have Sunday dinner with our family and friends. Of course, at times we go out to eat after church but I enjoy making Sunday dinner.  I think my family enjoys my pot roast the most after church.  We come in the house and the smell from the roast will make you so hungry.

Sunday naps. Who doesn't love a Sunday nap?  There just isn't anything like it.  My choice is usually laying on the couch falling to sleep to whatever on the t.v..

In my former church we had Bible study on Sunday nights. We had so much fun laughing and talking and sharing prayer requests and studying God's Word together. We would make some kind of food. We could throw down on some food. Of course, we are Baptists so there ya' go. ;)

Yes, I love Sunday, what about you?

Saturday "Tailgating" Menu

I am usually excited about Saturday's unless it is this Saturday when the Vols play the Gators, in what some people call a rivalry.

To me that would imply that you have two good teams. We get beat almost EVERY year.

So, we will concentrate on the food and fellowship and laughter and whatever happens in the game , happens.  If we happen to win, that will be an added bonus.

I usually make hot wings and various other things but the fam has requested pIzZa.

The menu won't be that thrilling today. lol

Speaking of pizza, what is your fav pizza?

Let me share a favorite pizza place of ours and if you  ever visit  Oak Ridge you need to visit this pizza joint.

It doesn't look like much from the outside or inside but they have the best pizza hands down!

You get served the pizza on flimsy paper plates and the forks are just as flimsy but it does not matter.
It is an experience to go there and I have been going there for over 23 years. My boys were raised on this place.

It is called BIG Ed's Pizza.

Ed passed away a few years ago but his sons run the place now.

It is right across the street from the high school and if you go on a Friday night during football season be prepared to wait a few hours in line. :)

He really looked like this. So many pictures on the wall signed by many celebreties that visited Big Ed!  Do y'all have a favorite, off the wall,  pizza place  in your home town?

Today, watching SEC football and eating pizza and cheering on my VOLS!

We are also hoping that our Wal Mart will have the cute and very  moist  orange and white cupcakes for dessert.

Whatever you are doing today, have fun!

Friday, September 18, 2009

The other day my friend G and I were shopping in Wal Mart and we went down the aisle to see if the new Fall candles were out.

We found the best smelling candle, I have it lit now and it smells so good.

It is the soy based candle by Gla-dey (french for Glade. lol  )

They have them on sale at Wal Mart for $3.00 right now. We had a coupon to get a free one. Free, it is a good thing.  This is Macintosh Apple.

Smelling this candle reminds me of this:

Doesn't this look delicious?

I like my pie to stand alone. No need for the ice cream.

All of this from one little candle. lol

What is your favorite candle scent or pie for that matter?

Speaking of pies.  I bought my son a pumpkin pie today. That is his favorite, that and the pumpkin cobbler I made last year. Yummo!

OH, it's the weekend.  Yay!!

I love the weekends.  Especially now that it is college football time.  My team is playing the Florida Gators and I am not looking forward to it at all but I plan on having a great weekend and I hope you do to!

Fall Decorating Ideas

I was on Better Homes and Gardens website and was looking at all the different ideas and crafts you can do with pumpkins.

This is the time of year we pull out our Fall decorations and as you know  decorating for each season is a love of mine. :)

That got me to thinking of Women's Ministries at our churches and I am sure most of us will be attending Fall retreats or events at church and of course this is the time for church homecomings.  They had an awesome idea that would be wonderful for a centerpiece that I thought I would share.

Isn't this pretty?   Some of you may have tried this already but just in case I thought I would pass this along.

If you enjoy mums this is a great idea to showcase them:

Head on over to their website if you want to see more ideas.  :)

Have a wonderful and blessed Thursday.

God's Wonder Working Power

In my quiet time today God led me to many verses about His power.  It was a wonderful time in God's Word today and I wanted to share a few things from my time with God today.  May you find hope as I did this morning. :)

The most exciting thing about God being all-powerful is that it means with God all things are possible. There is nothing too hard for Him!

There is nothing that God cannot do. God's power is not limited!

The same power that parted the Red Sea, opened blind eyes, broke the curse of death, and created heaven and earth can transform your life and the lives of others around you.

God has far more power than is necessary to meet your needs and lift you above your situation.

He has more than enough power to rescue you from your circumstances and help you do things you could not do without Him.

I shared this next part on my Facebook page.

God is so powerful that He can create something from nothing OR give life to the dead, OR "call those things which do not exist as though they do." (Romans 4:17)

Think what God can do in your life. :)

He has the power to do whatever is necessary and He doesn't want you to doubt it!

You never know what God is going to do because He can DO anything.

So, tell Him what your situation is and that you need His power to work in that situation and praise Him for it!!

I believe He can. :)

Lysol & Hand Sanatizer ...My Bff's! ;)

I have to say that today was a good day until my niece came home from school sick. She has the dreaded flu.

It is spreading fast in our area.

I went out immediately and bought Lysol spray and hand sanatizer.  My sister is cleaning and wiping down everything upstairs even as I type this.  It smells good. :)

I had the flu last yeat and I was sick for 2 months. It started with the flu and then went to a cough I could not get rid of which led to coughing so hard and much that I tore cracked a rib. SO, I am trying so hard to not be paranoid.

I love this time of year except for the flu and the allergy problems that come with it.

Is the flu bad where y'all live?

Also: Would you pray for my great nephew?  He is having surgery tomorrow morning. He was getting ready to head to this beach last week in this picture.  I love this baby boy. He is such a joy to babysit.

Switching subjects and to lighten the mood.  This evening was so nice. The kind of evening you like to spend outside. A cool breeze was blowing and the leaves are changing fast. I think I could stare at the different color of leaves during fall all day, simply beautiful.

We grilled out chicken and made a caesar salad and baked potatoes for dinner. This was simply delicious. ;)

I am thankful that we were able to enjoy the evening because the rest of the week it looks like the weather is changing to rain but temps in the 70's. My kind of temps!

Rainy days make me lazy. I think I could use about a month of laziness with a bunch of good books. Have you read any good books lately?  Wouldn't this be a perfect place to read a good book on a rainy day OR take a nap on a rainy day? :))  I love living near Gatlinburg. God is good!

Well, it is late and I am getting sleepy. Have a great Tuesday and may God send showers of blessings your way!

It's Not About Me

In my last post I opened it up to you all to ask me any question you wanted to and I wanted to answer a question my sweet blogging friend Lisa asked me.

Question: "Since your move to TN, how have you seen God's handprints on your present situation. "

This is such a great question and it seems like I get an answer to that question every day.

I can tell you that we have learned that this certain situation or season we have been in for close to a year now has nothing to do with our comfort or wants or desires for that matter.  It isn't about having a home of our own, a car of my own, etc... it is about being where God wants us to be because there are other people who need our help and prayers and that could not happen if we had stayed where we were.

God is more interested in us helping others than anything else right now. I have seen God's handprints in so many ways.  Protecting us from losing our car, providing through my ex husband, using us to step in and help family members, witnessing to lost family members. More importantly, witnessing through our actions and not just words.

Through all the difficult months we have endured , God has blessed us with many delights. We may get a few good days a month and I am not exagerrating this point, but that has been times of refreshing and blessing.  Rainbows after a rain , trips to the mountains, seeing countless deer and bears while in the mountains.  Beautiful sunrises, sunsets and wonderful quiet moments with God.  I would not trade it for anything.  I can't tell you how many times God has shielded us or rescued us from certain things.

I see God working on others even through painful circumstances. Some times the hard has to come for God's work to be completed.

There have been times when I truly didn't think I could make it another day or that the stress was going to be more than I could bear, but each time God spoke a Word to my heart that gave me strength and kept me going.

There have been times when I didn't want to help the person that had just been hateful or said hateful things to us but God quickly reminded me, I am to work as unto the Lord.  I needed that reminder and I thank God for it.  It certainly helps to remember that when doing day to day tasks that can get boring. ;)

So yes, God is working in and through us.

I am not going to pretend with you all, I wish this season would end but there is a greater work involved here and God will complete it.

God has required our material things and money for the sake of others and even though it is hard , I am humbled at the calling on our lives right now.

I am the type of person who loves to decorate for each season and I want so much to have my own home and to be able to pull out the 10 tubs of Fall decorations that I have but for now I can only pull out a few small things and enjoy that.

I can promise you this, when going through a season like this you quickly learn to be thankful for even the small things because you just never know when you may lose it but also that people are more important than our comfort and material things and sometimes it may require they loss of job and a home to travel to where God needs you to in order to minister to others that need a touch from God. We are His hands and His feet.

Thank you Lisa!

Love you all! Have a blessed Sunday!

Something Different

Good Morning!

I haven't posted since the weekend but it has been a busy week.

How is your week going?  Did you enjoy Labor Day?

I turned 45 on Labor Day.  I praise God for giving me 45 years of life.  Cancer could have taken my life but God had other plans. Thank you Jesus.

As I have been driving around town I have noticed the leaves are changing fast.  It seems a tad early to me but I love it all the same.

My sister wrote me and told me she and my 2 1/2 year old niece were in Walgreens this morning and they went down an aisle that had a ton of University of Tennessee merchandise and Olivia said, mommy U.T. stuff, that is Aunt Patty's stuff. LOL  Any time she sees something orange she wants to buy it for me.

Off to a Good Start

So, I am at my older sister's house. House sitting for them as they left for the beach early this morning.

Since we moved in with my other sister and because the 5 of us in my family are living in close quarters I have not been able to have much privacy for a quiet time. I have missed it more than I can describe but I am thankful for the roof over our heads.

Anyway, I got up around 6:30 this morning and God painted a beautiful sunrise . The sky was filled with a pretty color of purple and pink and the full moon was still very visible! Praise God!

I got my cup of rasberry coffee with vanilla caramel creamer and headed to the chair with my Bible and journal. God and I had a great time together. ;)

Isn't He good?!

"Those who seek the Lord shall not lack any good thing." Psalm 34:10

Switching gears:
I have to get off here because my great nephew will be here soon. He is walking so good now and it is harder keeping up with a one year old now that I am 45 than when I was 24 with my firstborn. Whew!!

We will be watching football in the midst of babysitting and I will be cooking our first "tailgating" food of the season. :)

On the Menu:
Hot Wings

Normally I buy wingettes but I am making my brother's wing recipe today and he buys the entire wing and snips off the corner.

Marinate the wings for a couple of hours in Texas Pete Wing Sauce.

Cook on high heat, 450 degrees for 30 minutes. (this makes the skin crispy)

Easy. As. Pie. :)

Peel and quarter potatoes. (I usually peel 6 potatoes)

Boil potatoes until almost done. (not too hard but not too soft either)

While the potatoes are boiling fry a few slices of bacon. Crumble the bacon(set aside)

Drain and place in a 13 x 9 pan

Sprinkle salt, pepper and onion powder on potatoes

Put your crumbled bacon on top

Add 2 cups of cheddar cheese or mont/jack cheese on top

Bake in a 350 degree oven for 20 minutes or until cheese has melted
Again, oh so easy!

I bake and or grill Coles garlic bread to go along with it.

Of course, I cannot end this Saturday post without saying..... GO VOLS!!!

I hope you all have a great holiday weekend!!

Just In Time

Boo Mama is hosting a Dip Tacular par-tay tomorrow. Just in time for the football season and if you aren't a football fan you can still enjoy collecting new recipes. Who doesn't like a good dip to go with your chips? :)
One more thing, I may be back soon with exciting news. ;)

Gearing Up for the Weekend

I wanted to check in with sweet blogging friends. :)

It has been a busy week so far and I am so excited about the weekend!
If you have read my blog for any length of time you know how much of a fan I am of SEC college football and especially my team, the VOLS! This Saturday at 12:30 they play their first game and we have a new coach and this is going to be exciting and nerve racking all at the same time.
Starting this weekend I will be house sitting my oldest sister's house and babysitting her grand baby, my great nephew while they are at the beach. I will also be celebrating my 45th birthday on Labor Day. I can't believe I am getting closer and closer to the big 50.

I am trying to wash all the laundry before I leave for the week.

Speaking of laundry....my sister that I live with made her own laundry soap for 1.59. She got the recipe off the Duggar website. It makes so much and smells so good. She bought the essential oil, Clean Linen to put in it and it smells better than the Gain I use for our clothes.

It doesn't take long to make and our clothes are so soft and smell so good , I think you ought to try it. I was a bit skeptical at first and I watched her make it and thought ...uh no, I will stick with my Gain. :) I have changed my mind. When we get into our own home I am going to try and make it. ;)

I will be starting back my Saturday Menu. I try and post the tailgating food I make for each football game each Saturday and at times the recipes that go with it and I will be doing this on my Recipe Blog, HERE.

If you have some good recipes for tailgating I would love it if you would share with me because I love trying new recipes. Especially for hot wings.

Time for me to make some sweet tea and start preparing the dinner thing.
Y'all have a great evening!
